Zeit- und Sachbezug: Schopenhauers philosophisches Hauptwerk. - Inhalt: Das Wesen der Dinge ist Wille, nicht (wie die abendländische Tradition zumeist annahm) Geist, und die »Welt« (das Seiende im Ganzen) ist der Prozess, in welchem der Wille (nicht der Geist) sich selbst erkennt. - Überlieferung: erschien Ende 1818 mit Erscheinungsdatum 1819, die zweite 1844 veröffentlichte Auflage wurde um einen zweiten Band vermehrt.
